Shade was invented by the trees

In this installation, two imaginaries merge: the first is of a human being resting beneath a tree, the other of an open beach with parasols.

Through this dichotomy, the artist seeks to highlight the contrast between the natural and the artificial, between trees and parasols. To recreate shade, she chose to use twelve beach parasols (as twelve are the projects taking part in Ecoismi), each carved with the words “Shade was invented by the trees”. The parasols may be used by park visitors to shield themselves from the sun, while at the same time reflecting on the role of the surrounding trees.

Emotions expressed in visual art

Noy Jessica Laufer’s story is interwoven with the search for a visual language that gives voice to the human essence, amid monochromatic backdrops and decorative patterns that hold faces, emotions, and fragments of life.
